He was born July 31, 1939, in Jacksonville, a son of James and Marie Davis Allen. He married Patsy Tomlinson. He later married Linda Sue Derry on March 23, 1984, in Rushville. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2016.
He also was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Sophia Sherrod; two brothers, James and Donald Allen; and three sisters, Donna Edminston, Virginia Couch and Barb DeOrnellas.
Surviving are one son, Kent (and Debra) Allen of Jacksonville; one daughter, Kelley (and Roger) Dunning of Petersburg, Ind.; one brother, Bill Allen of Jacksonville; one sister, Judy (and Jim) DeOrnellas of Fairfield, Iowa; one special friend, Karen Diseron of Rushville; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He owned and operated Len’s Autobody and Allen’s Auto Sales, both in Rushville. He later went on to work at Cargill in Beardstown.
He was a member and past Governor of the Moose Lodge of Rushville. He also was a member of the Rushville Chamber of Commerce, where he served as past president.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Summum Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria.
