Donald ApplegateDonald R. Applegate, 89, of Baton Rouge, La., formerly of Littleton, died at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 12, 2015, at Hospice of Baton Rouge.

He was born June 4, 1925, in Littleton, a son of Paul and Lenore Young Applegate. He married Loretta Rollins on Dec. 20, 1948. She preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2011.

He also was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Alfred, Richard, Rodney and Robert Applegate; and one sister, Pauline Heaton.

Surviving are three sons, Terry Applegate of Columbus, Ohio, and David Applegate and Robert Applegate, both of Baton Rouge, La.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, he was trained as a Flight Engineer on a B-29 Super-Fortress and also was an Aviation Cadet.

He was a member of Baton Rouge Masonic Lodge #47, F & AM and Lake In The Hills American Legion Post #188, Lake In The Hills, Ill.

Masonic Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville. Military Rites will follow in Littleton Cemetery by a U.S. Air Force Honors Detail and Schuyler American Legion Post #4.
