Pauline AltenbernPauline Ruth Altenbern, 90, of Freeport, formerly of Warren, died at 10:30 p.m. Feb. 11, 2015, at Liberty Village Manor Court in Freeport.

She was born July 8, 1924, in South Wayne, Wis., the daughter of Ray Harrison and Agnes Opal Hartsough Jones. She married Clifford Carl Altenbern on Sept. 19, 1942, in Warren. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1981, in Rockford.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Krysella Brose; and two brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Jones and Delvin Jones.

Surviving are one son, Stephen (and Nancy) Altenbern of Colchester; four grandchildren, Laura (and Devin) Hickle of Astoria, Matthew (and Lori) Brose of Davis, Jason (and Amy) Altenbern of Plainfield and Sarah Brose (and Fred Allen) of Freeport; four great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Ainsley Altenbern of Plainfield, Rachel Hickle of Astoria, and Cameron Brose of Davis; two step-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Ernest Brose II of Freeport; one brother, Bruce (and Betty) Jones of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She worked at Savanna Ordnance Depot during World War II. She was bookkeeper for the Warren schools for many years.

She was a member of Warren United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, and was a bird-watching enthusiast. She loved to sew and created many handcrafted gifts for her friends and family. She also was a member of Warren Historical Society, Rebekah’s Lodge and Modern Minerva’s, and was a long-time supporter of Apple River Canyon State Park.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services were held Monday at Warren United Methodist Church with Pastor Roger Bronkema officiating. Leamon Funeral Home of Lena was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be at a later date.
