Gary AdkinsGary R. Adkins, 68, of Astoria died at 5:55 p.m. Oct. 11, 2014, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center Emergency Room in Peoria.

He was born July 23, 1946, in Atterberry, a son of Carroll and Gladys Miller Adkins. He married Sandra Klinedinst on April 9, 1966, in Summum. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Laura (and Craig) Adkins and Crystal (and Brian) Hayes, both of Astoria; one son, Scott (and Shannon) Adkins of Astoria; three sisters, Judy (and Terry) Lynn of Williamsfield, Roberta (and Neil) Lowe of Rushville and Rosemary John of Macomb; three brothers, Bob (and Janet) Adkins, Jody Adkins and Ray (and Marsha) Adkins, all of Astoria; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Arlie Adkins.

He sold satellite dishes in the early 1980s. He also worked as a welder at Astoria Fibra Steel, was owner/operator of Astoria Feed and Seed from 1984-90, owner/operator of Adkins Video in Astoria from 1986-2008, was a heavy equipment operator for Fiat-Allis in Astoria for eleven and one-half years, was a laborer for laborer’s local of Jacksonville and last worked as a handyman in the Astoria area.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Ken Peterson officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.
