Henry "Butch" AllmanThe Astoria community was shocked and saddened when word was received that “Butch” Allman, 20 year old Astoria serviceman, had been killed in Viet Nam. He is Astoria’s first casualty there.

Henry H. “Butch” Allman, 20, of Astoria, was killed at approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday, June 25 (Viet Nam time) near Tue Hoa, Viet Nam.

Allman was serving with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry (a part of the 1st Air Cavalry). He was on a “Search and Destroy” mission near Tue Hoa at the time of his death.

“Butch” was a lifetime Astoria area resident and attended Grade and High School here.

Pfc. Allman was home on leave about a month ago and had been in Viet Nam only 17 days before being killed.

His body will be returned to Astoria for services and burial at a later date.

Allman was born April 25, 1946, a son of Jesse and Ruth McFetridge Allman of Astoria, who survive. Also surviving are his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Curt McFetridge of Astoria; two sisters, Mrs. Judy Christine Abernathy and Miss Leona Marie Allman, both of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Shawgo Memorial Home will be in charge of arrangements.
