Michael YazvecMichael Yazvec, 90, of Ipava died at 8:20 a.m. March 5, 2019, at his home.

He was born Sept. 23, 1928, in Youngstown, Pa., a son of Thomas and Sarah Turkas Yazvec. He married Caroline Taber on Dec. 30, 1951, in Ipava. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy (and Harold “Bud”) Sackett of Ipava; two sons, Michael (and Cindy) Yazvec and Fred (and Reta) Yazvec, both of Ipava; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Fran Brown, Rose Jasper and Barb Baker; one brother, Tom Yazvec; and two stepsisters.

He was a farmer. While he farmed, he also worked at Tingley’s in Ipava, International Harvester in Canton until they closed and Norforge in Bushnell, retiring in 1993. After retirement, he worked for Pleasant Township for 15 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1946-48 with the MP Detachment, 1262D at Ft. Dix, NJ, with a rank of Private, First Class.

He was a member of Ipava Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Ipava American Legion Post #17 and the United Auto Workers.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Brant Reed officiating. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post #17.
