She was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Rushville, the daughter of Isaac and Sarah Abbott Young.
Surviving are many cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one nephew.
A lifelong school teacher, she began her career in a Fulton County one-room country school upon graduating from Rushville High School. She then entered Grenville College graduating with honors. She became a fifth-grade teacher in the Decatur area for several years. She then became a reading specialist retiring after 35 years in education. Upon her retirement, she returned to her home community of Rushville.
She directed musical activities as a teacher. She played the piano and organ in her church. She was involved in her community and was instrumental in the development of Charles Place housing for seniors.
Services were held Monday at Rushville Free Methodist Church with Pastor Greg Fish officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery. Wood Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
