Roy WoodsideRoy Dorman Woodside, 88, of Rushville died at 1:35 p.m. Sept. 30, 2022, at Rushville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Sept. 28, 1934, in Galesburg, the son of William Theodore and Erma Amelia Dorman Woodside. He married Norma Jean Shea on March 17, 1957, in Chicago. She survives.

Also surviving are one nephew, William Cash of Silvis; and one niece, Christine Cash of Alexis.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Fell; and one niece, Nancy Cash.

He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952. He served in the U. S. Navy from March 5, 1953, until March 1, 1957. In 1961, he graduated from Western IL University with a BS in Education and in 1971 he received a MS in Education. He taught Industrial Arts at Rushville High School for 32 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement he taught part-time at VIT Schools and taught adult woodworking for Spoon River College. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushville where he had served as Chairman and Elder. He also was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4, Rushville Lions Club, National Education Association and Illinois Education Association.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Brian Lesemann officiating. Burial with Military Honors by a U.S. Navy Honors Detail and Knox County Honor Guard will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
