Jerry WalkerJerry L. Walker, 79, of Rushville died at 5:29 a.m. June 2, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Macomb, a son of Chester and Margaret Gamage Walker. He married Martha L. McClelland on June 21, 1959, in Littleton. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Pittman (and companion Les Allen) of Frederick and Luan (and Sam) Gossage of Rushville; one brother, John (and Georgia) Walker of Beardstown; one sister, Betty (and Chris) Howe of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara (and Clarence “Bud”) Ramshaw; and his stepfather, John Tucker.

He graduated from Rushville High School with the class of 1957. While in high school, he worked at Streitberger’s Bakery and West Foods Grocery, both in Rushville. He also was a groomer for Standardbred Harness Race Horses at the Schuyler County Fairgrounds working many other area race tracks. He worked at Bartlow Brothers, Inc. 17 years and at NTN-Bower 31 years before retiring in 2004.

In his youth he volunteered with Boy Scout Troop #35. He was a life-long member of Rushville First United Methodist Church serving as head usher many years. He also served on the church administrative board, helped with the Methodist Church Youth Group and had been a member of the adult choir.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at his church with Rev. Grant Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
