He was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Trinity County, Texas, a son of Benjamin and Marie Rushing Whitwell. He married Judy Rivas on Sept. 2, 1987, in Montgomery, Texas. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Pamela (and Brent) Croan of Olathe, Kan., Jackie (and John) Dodd of Morton and Tricia (and Brian) Mullins of Woodland Park, Colo.; one brother, Bill (and Shirley) Whitwell of Joplin, Mo.; one sister, Betty (and Homer) Jean Stokes of Whitehouse, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Whitwell; and one brother, Michael Whitwell.
He was operator at Goodyear Chemical Plant in Houston, Texas, for 32 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of UAW for 32 years.
Cremation Rites have been accorded. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
