Florence Woodruff

Florence WoodruffFlorence Ellen Woodruff, 89, of Rushville died at 11:43 a.m. Oct. 18, 2010, at Snyder’s Vaughn Haven Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 3, 1921, a daughter of Sherman and Alberta Kelly Portwood. She married John Raymond Woodruff on May 16, 1942, in Canton, Mo. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1982.

She also was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harry Jones, who raised her; and one sister, Frances Portwood.

Surviving are three sons, Allan (and Mary) Woodruff of Cuba and Robert (and Teena) Woodruff and James (and Jeanne) Woodruff, both of Rushville; one brother, Richard Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Norma Roth and Delores French, both of Beardstown; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

After her husband’s discharge from World War II in 1945, they started farming in Industry. In 1955, they moved to Astoria and continued farming there until Raymond’s death in 1982.

She moved to Vermont for several years before moving to Rushville where she lived until entering the nursing home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Fred Fritz officiating. Burial will follow at Vermont Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
