Gene WrestlerGene Wrestler, 84, of Canton died at 11:50 p.m. Jan. 24, 2010, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Canton.

He was born June 18, 1925, in Summum, the son of Ernest E. and Winifred L. Shields Wrestler.

He married Evelyn R. McFarlin on June 19, 1948, in Canton. She survives.

He spent 50 years in the auto business. From 1950 to 1960, he worked for Locks Auto Company in the sales department and in a managerial capacity. In 1960, he and a partner, Robert Fouts purchased the Chevrolet dealership in Canton from which he retired in 1990. The dealership was first Bob and Gene Chevrolet until becoming Gene Wrestler Chevrolet in 1964. Later, in 1972, he and Art Hossler became partners and the name was changed to Art and Genes Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac. In 1986, Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge were added.

He was a 40-year member of Canton Elks Lodge #626, 25-year member of Loyal Order of the Moose #784, past member of Canton Country Club for over 40 years and past member of Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills Country Club.

He also was co-owner of Four Seasons bowling alley in Canton from 1976 to 1996 and a partner in Mid-States Auto parts.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with Rev. Roger Russell officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
