James WatersJames Edward Waters, 66, of Table Grove died at 10:40 p.m. Sept. 13, 2007, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

He was born Dec. 20, 1940, in Macomb, a son of Harold and Nellora Westlake Waters. He married Nadine Keene on Jan. 8, 1987. She survives.

Also surviving are six daughters, Theresa Lee (and Steve) Haney of Vermont, Letha Wynette Marker of Palm Harbor, Fla., Dana Mae (and Ken) Curtsinger of Decatur, Lorrie Ann (and Joseph) Gauwitz and Brenda Rae DeLozier, both of Mossville and Tammy Marie Conners of Macomb; three sons, Edward Gregory (and Terri) Waters of Table Grove, James Grant Waters of Adair and Michael Ray DeLozier of Green Valley, Mo.; one brother, Daryl Waters of Aledo; 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and first wife, Linda Joanne Waters.

He was in the United States Army and retired as a corporal in the military police in 1965.

He graduated from Spoon River College in Canton with a degree in English literature.

He moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where he was a sportswriter for the Arizona Republic and Gazette. He returned to Illinois and became editor for the Fulton County Ledger.

He was a member of Table Grove American Legion Post 413.

In 1995, he retired as a millwright for Local 2158. He and his wife, Nadine, started a business raising purebred Eldorado German shepherds.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Harris Cemetery in Table Grove. Cremation has been accorded. Kost Memorial Home in Vermont was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Fulton County.
