ZELMA C. (FRAIKES) BROOKS WHIDDON

Zelma Whiddon

Zelma C. Whiddon, 85, of Mountain Home, Ark., formerly of Lewistown, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Mountain Home.

She was born June 13, 1917, in Fulton County, the daughter of Lawrence Ogden and Emma Allen Ogden Fraikes. She married Harry Brooks on Sept. 20, 1935. He died Dec. 13, 1965. She married Henry Whiddon of DeRidder, La., on Jan. 1, 1972. They lived in Lewistown until 1978 when they retired to Mountain Home. He died Jan. 13, 1994.

Surviving are one son, Gary (and Elizabeth) Brooks of St. Louis; three stepdaughters, Glenda Sue (and Larry) James of Spring, Texas, Tommie Jo (and Gary) Fontenot of Conroe, Texas, and Janice (and Bob) Asbury of Fort Smith, Ark; three grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and four step-greatgrandchildren.

She was a graduate of Lewistown High School Class of 1935 and a member of the Alumni Association.

She and her mother, Emma Fraikes, sold monuments on North Main Street in Lewistown for Lacky & Sons for many years.

She was a former member of the Lewistown Presbyterian Church and was past president of Lewistown Business and Professional Women's Organization. She was an active member of Mountain Home Presbyterian Church, VFW Auxiliary, Elks Lodge Ladies, Order of Eastern Star and Democrat Ladies of Baxter County, Ark.

Cremation has been accorded and burial of ashes will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown at a later date.

Memorials may be made to any charity.
