DWAYNE M. “SMITTY” SMITH

Dwayne M. “Smitty” Smith, 84, of Vermont, died at 1:48 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, in the McDonough District Hospital emergency room. He was killed when his car was struck by a semitrailer truck in Macomb.

He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in rural Cuba, a son of Miles W. and Mary M. Mitchell Smith.

Surviving are one sister, Margaret Chaddock of Peoria; and 19 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

He and a brother owned and operated a Case Implement Dealership in Vermont for many years. He later worked and retired from Astoria Fibersteel in Astoria.

A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he served as a bomber pilot with the 8th Air Force. He was a member of Vermont American Legion Post 26.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Services were held Saturday at Henry Memorial Home in Cuba with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial was in Fiatt Cemetery, where military services were conducted by American Legion Post 26.

Dwayne M. Smith, 84, of Vermont, was pronounced dead in the emergency room of McDonough District Hospital in Macomb at 1:48 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 1999, following an auto accident.

Services are pending. Henry Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of the arrangements.
