James E. Williams, 69, of Canton, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born June 23, 1928, in Aledo, the son of George P. and Edith Spence Williams. He married Rosemary Trone on July 9, 1960, in Summum. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Randall of Springfield; four grandchildren; and his mother of Aledo.

A Caterpillar Inc. employee for 30 years, he retired from the Mossville Plant in June 1977. He was a member of Canton Christian Church. An Army veteran, he served as a communication technician in Japan from 1949 until 1950. He served in the Army Reserves in Canton for eight years. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the Timber-Hollis Fire Department in Glasford for 10 years and a dispatch operator for the Astoria Fire Department for two years.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Gary Sheets officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery near Astoria.

Memorials may be made to the Oncology Department at St. Francis Medical Center or the Fulton County Emergency Medical Association.
