VeteranPaul D. Wickert Dies At His Home

Paul Devere Wickert, 69, of Rock Island, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 1990, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 14, 1920, near Ipava, a son of Charlie and Mabel Cass Wickert. He married Mary Ellen Little on Dec. 16, 1956, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Penny Wickert of Rock Island, Patricia Hemenway of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Pamela Erickson of Columbia, Md.; one sister, Betty Clemens and one brother, Ronal Wickert, both of Astoria; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Paul Jr., and one brother.

He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran. He had worked as a technical engineer at WHBF-TV in Rock Island for 31 years before retiring in 1985. He had attended the Astoria Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. this afternoon at the Astoria Church of the Brethren with Rev. Wayne Rouse officiating. Burial will be in Astoria Cemetery in Astoria. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Church of the Brethren.
