Alta Irene Wherley, 70, of Lewistown, died at 2:53 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 1989, at the Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.
She was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Lewistown Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Jacob R. and Edna FitzHenry Young. She married Harold Wherley. He died in September 1967.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Surviving are one brother, Myron Young of Lewistown; and one sister, Ruth Winks of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
She was a secretary for the Selective Service Board in Fulton County for 25 years. She was a member of the Illinois Street Christian Church, the Past Chiefs Club and was a past president of the Senior Women’s Club, all in Lewistown. She also was active in many other organizations before her health failed.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown, with visitation one hour before the services. Rev. Barbara Short will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
