Verne Martin “Chick” Walton, 60, of 300 Southeast 14th Ave., Okeechobee, Fla., formerly of Canton, died Oct. 29, 1985, at the H.H. Raulerson Jr. Memorial Hospital at Okeechobee.

He was born Nov. 22, 1924 at Browning, the son of George and Ada (Busby) Walton. He married Shirley May. She survives.

Other survivors include three daughters, Altaleigh Strother of Peoria, Cecilia Carnley of Okeechobee, and Melinda Walton of Okeechobee; two sons, Troy Walton and Warren Walton, both of Okeechobee; two brothers, Joe Walton of Canton, and Ed Walton of Portland, Ore.; his mother, Ada Walton of Canton; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Walton lived in Canton for several years where he was best known as a professional guitarist. He was a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 304 of Fulton County and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery at Okeechobee. Bass Okeechobee Funeral Home was in charge of services.
