Dorothy Van WinkleDorothy M. Van Winkle, 98, of Galesburg, formerly of Rushville, died at 3:20 a.m. May 8, 2012, at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg.

She was born May 31, 1913, in Camden Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of George and Anna Phillips Rice. She married Elbert Van Winkle on April 5, 1932, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1971.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Roderick Van Winkle; one granddaughter, Ruth Ann Van Winkle; three brothers, Howard, Paul and Lloyd Rice; and one sister, Mary DeMoss.

Surviving are one brother, Lawrence Rice of Clarence, Mo.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She first worked at Mickelberry's in Rushville and was a home healthcare provider. She later worked in the dietary department of Jacksonville State Hospital for 15 years.

She was a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church before joining First United Methodist Church in Rushville.

She was a member of Adelaide Rebekah Lodge and past Oracle of Royal Neighbors.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Jim Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Schuyler Jail Museum and Genealogical Center in Rushville and Community Bible Church in Knoxville.
