Russel S. Vail, 88, of Macomb died at 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at McDonough District Hospital.

He was born Sept. 29, 1912, in Table Grove, a son of Genar F. and Lizzie Switzer Vail. He married Virginia Brown on Nov. 19, 1939, in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Sue Ann Shoham of Fox Point, Wis.; two grandchildren; one brother, Willard of Washington; and three sisters, Virginia Connell of Peoria, Betty McClelland of Matoon and Lois Wainwright of Fort Myers, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one son, James, and three brothers.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was a self-employed building contractor.

He was a member of McDonough American Legion Post 6 and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1921; Macomb Lodge 17, AF&AM; York Rite Bodies; and Macomb Presbyterian Church.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation has been accorded. Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
