MARY ELIZABETH (THOMAS) VINCENT

Mary Vincent

Mary Elizabeth Vincent, 90, of Jacksonville, formerly of Beardstown, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 1997, at her residence.

She was born July 29, 1906, in Brown County, the daughter of James and Julia Ebey Thomas. She married Charles Ruel Vincent on April 3, 1920, in Beardstown. He died July 14, 1972. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers and one grandson.

Surviving are one daughter, Bettie J. Cassel of Jacksonville, with whom she made her home; two sons, Jack Vincent and James E. Vincent; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren. Darlene Baker of Bader is a step-granddaughter.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beardstown. She worked at Toshs Grocery Store and Woolworths in Beardstown for a number of years. She also worked as a cook at several area restaurants, including the Sherry Pit, Hackers Pizza and the A.W. Root Beer Stand. She was known as “Big Mom” to her family and friends.

Services were held today at 2 p.m. at the Cline Funeral Home in Beardstown. Burial will be in the City Cemetery at Beardstown.

Memorials may be made to the Visiting Nurses of Morgan County or the First Baptist Church of Beardstown.
