MARY E. (ELLISON) VIRGIN

Mary E. Virgin Dies April 16

Mary E. Virgin, 89, of rural Bushnell died at 11:40 p.m. Monday, April 16, 1990, at her home.

She was born April 12, 1901, in Eldorado Township, McDonough County, a daughter of William J. and Julia Elizabeth (Pugh) Ellison. She married John H. Virgin on May 29, 1925, in Jacksonville. He died Jan. 31, 1972.

She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Leroy Ellison and Lawrence Ellison.

Surviving are one sister, Elizabeth Ellison of Bushnell; two nieces and one nephew.

She graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville in 1922 and taught school in Virginia, Ill.

She was a member of the Gavel Club, Adair Home Extension Unit, Friendly Circle, Ladies Aid of the New Philadelphia United Methodist Church and was a member and past worthy matron of Lucille Chapter Order of Eastern Star.

She also was a member of Bushnell United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

The Virgins resided in the Vermont area for several years.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell with Rev. Alan Newhall officiating. Burial was in Bushnell Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Bushnell United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
