RUTH C. (HIGGINS) UTTER

Ruth Utter

Ruth UtterRuth C. Utter, 78, of rural Browning died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Birmingham Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Elva and Inez Manlove Higgins. She married Frank H. Utter on March 1, 1947, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Larry (and Cindy) of Jacksonville and Danny (and Jolyn) of Industry; one sister, Lois (and Wayne) Van Fleet of Plymouth; two brothers, Junior (and Mabel) Higgins of Mexico, Mo., and Donnie (and Carolyn) Higgins of LaPrairie; and six grandchildren.

Two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death.

She was a hairdresser before her marriage. She and her husband then farmed for many years before retiring.

She was a member of Frederick Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Frederick, where she served as superintendent, treasurer and Sunday school teacher and was a member of the Missionary Club.

She also was a member of the Household Science Club.

Services were held Friday at her church with Rev. Tracy Armstrong and Rev. Matt Haberman officiating. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Messerer Cemetery near Frederick.
