Ethel TharpEthel A. Tharp, 96, of Jacksonville, formerly of Rushville, died at 8:05 a.m. May 20, 2015, at Heritage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Jacksonville.

She was born June 11, 1918, in Littleton Township, Schuyler County, the daughter of Leo A. and Mary H. Winebeck Payne. She married Cleo H. Tharp on March 12, 1940, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Virginia Mae Tharp; twin grandsons, Roger and Eric Dingeldein; one step granddaughter, Julie Frank; one step great-granddaughter, Heather Frank; and two brothers, Clarence Payne and Ernest Payne.

Surviving are two daughters, Audrey (and Oren) Dingeldein of Washington and Joann (and Raymond) Eifert of Rushville; four grandchildren; one step grandchild; 11 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and two step great-great-grandchildren.

She was a cook at the Fey School. Later, she was a nurse’s aide at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville for 20 years, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of Sugar Grove United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She also was a 4-H leader.

Services were held Saturday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Charla Meyers officiating. Burial was in the Palm Cemetery, west of Rushville.
