Marie Thompson-KesslerMarie E. Thompson-Kessler, 90, of Rushville died Sept. 25, 2013, at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Beardstown.

She was born April 5, 1923, in Sheldons Grove, a daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Miller Surratt. She married John William Thompson on March 30, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 11, 1970. She later married Morris F. Kessler on July 6, 1991, in Macomb. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2003.

She also was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Cheri Ramey, Jackie D. and Jacob Thompson; two sisters, Alma Trimmer and Rosalee Graham; and three brothers, Donald, Jack and Robert Surratt.

Surviving are 14 children, Jo Ann Neubauer of Buelltin, Calif., Mary (and Larry) Graves and John (and Janet) Thompson, both of Macomb, Betty (and Charles) Carlock of Roanoke, Texas, William (and Debbie) Thompson of Beardstown, Jack (and Becki)Thompson of Chandler, Ariz., Shirley (and Charles) Steen of Apache Jct., Ariz., Robert (and Mary) Thompson of Ft. Worth, Texas, Connie (and Rick) Kellenberger of Bartonville, Wayne Thompson, Vickie (and Bobby) Belville and Scott (and Evelyn) Thompson, all of Rushville, Ed (and Penny) Thompson of Maricopa, Ariz., Tammi (and Russ)Waldron of Peoria; one stepson, Frank (and Sandy) Kessler of Macomb; four brothers, Phillip Surratt of Sandwich, Bobby Joe Surratt of Aurora, Ernie Surratt of Plano and Charles Surratt of Taylorville; one sister, Eloise Carlock of Gainesville, Texas; 50 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and four great–great-grandchildren.

She worked at Western Manufacturing in Aurora for three years. She then worked as a CNA at Lacey Nursing Home for two years, Hills Nursing Home for nine years and the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb for seven years. Her last job was at Wal-Mart, retiring in 1992.

She was a member of Macomb Eagles Club and attended Sheldons Grove Methodist Church where she was baptized.

Services were held Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Rose Ross officiating. Burial was in Sheldons Grove Cemetery.
