Robert H. "Bob" Talbert, 86, of Rushville died at 11:05 p.m. Sept. 16, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 2, 1927, in St. Louis County, Mo., a son of Arthur Leon and Ruth Vaughn Talbert Sr. He married LaVern Smith on Dec. 1, 1948, in Salem, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are their children, Marie (and Kevin) Tucker of Riverton and Roy Leon (and Maureen) Talbert of Springfield; four brothers, Frank Talbert of DeSoto, Mo., Bill (and Jean) Talbert of Cook Station, Mo., John (and Virginia) Talbert of Browning and Alvin Talbert of Minier; two sisters, Phyllis (and John) Eck of St. Louis and Sheila (and Jim) Kramer of Chesterfield, Mo.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Ann Talbert; one brother, Arthur Leon Talbert Jr.; and two sisters, Beryl Talbert and Pearl Rogers.

He attended Benton Creek School and was a 1945 graduate of Steeleville Missouri High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

After the service he farmed in Minier before becoming a franchise owner of Texaco Service Station in Beardstown in 1958. He later owned Zephyr Service Station in Beardstown from 1961-68. He also was the manager for a monument company in Beardstown. In August of 1969, he moved to Rushville and began a grain and cattle farm operation.

He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post #4 and Schuyler County Farm Bureau.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hutson Funeral Home in Steeleville, Mo., with Pastor Casey Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Carr Cemetery in Cook Station, Mo., with military rites by Missouri Military Honors Program. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Hutson Funeral Home. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville is assisting with the arrangements.
