Richard TuckerRichard Harland “Dick” Tucker, 73, of Rushville died at 10:10 a.m. March 2, 2010, at Denton Regional Hospital in Denton, Texas.

He was born April 8, 1936, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a son of Tommy A. and Eleanor Allen Verner Tucker. He married Carolyn Lee Fey on June 5, 1960, in Wayland, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Richard H. Tucker II of Memphis, Tenn., Laura D. (and Rusty) Yowell of Highland Village, Texas, and Catherine D. White of Belton, Mo; one sister, Betty (and Ralph) Coonrod of Belton; two brothers, Tommy L. (and Linda) Tucker of Reno, Nev., and Gary C. (and Meri) Tucker of Haymarket, Va.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1954; earned his bachelors degree from University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo., in 1959; masters degree from Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, Mo., in 1961; and his educational specialist degree from University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, in 1988.

He was employed as a teacher at Abingdon Junior High School, Abingdon, 1959-1960; Maryland High School, Maryland, Mo., 1960-1963; Lombard High School and Costa High School, Galesburg, 1963-1969; Greenfield High School, Greenfield, 1971-1977; and Rushville High School, Rushville, 1977-2001, when he retired.

He was a member of Rushville Free Methodist Church, Schuyler Running Club, Schuyler, Illinois, and National Education Associations, Illinois Coaches Association, Illinois Track and Cross Country Association, National Science Teachers Association, National High School Athletic Coaches Association, Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity (social) and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity (professional).

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at his church with Rev. John Glennon and Rev. Robert Kirkham officiating. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Abingdon Cemetery with Pastor Joe Eckman officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville.

Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund in Coach Tucker’s name through the Schuyler Running Club.
