Wayne F. Thornsbrough, 76, of Westville, formerly of Pekin and Astoria, died at 12:32 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001, at Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville.

He was born March 5, 1925, in Danville, a son of Ennis and Evelyn Hughes Thornsbrough. He married Bess Shahadey on Sept. 16, 1945, in Paris, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Michael and Gregory, both of Westville; two brothers, Harlan of Rossville and David of Bismarck; three sisters, Shirley Stephenson and JoLynn Sutton, both of Alvin, and June Cain of Pittsboro, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a World War II Air Force veteran.

He attended Illinois State University in Normal.

He was employed with the Illinois State Police as a state trooper from 1959 to 1985.

He received lifetime membership in the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police Troopers Lodge 41, where he was a trustee and associate membership chairman for many years.

He was a past member of Danville Elks Lodge, Astoria Masonic Lodge, Pekin Moose Lodge, Westville American Legion Post 51 and the Retired Police Association.

Services were held May 23, 2001, at Lakeside-Barrick Funeral Chapel in Danville with Rev. Bruce Thornsbrough, his nephew, officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, with military rites conducted by his American Legion post.
