William Turner Of Ipava Dies

William “Paul” Turner, 77, of rural Ipava died at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 1990, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 23, 1912, in Abingdon, a son of H. C. and Bessie Fields Turner. He married Mary C. Nichols on April 10, 1937, in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Robert of Abingdon, Rodney of Holden, Mo., and William of Grapevine, Texas; three daughters, Carol Gummerson of Canton, Barbara Shreves of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Mrs. Job (Paula) Marshall of Garland, Texas; one brother, Clifford of Incline Village, Nev.; two sisters, Mrs. Ernest (Jewel) Johnson of Berwick and Mrs. Ed (Margaret) Daniels of Cohasset, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

He had been a farmer in the Berwick and Fairview areas and had farmed in the Ipava area for the past 23 years. He was a past president of the Avon School board, where he had served during the 1950s.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial Home in Canton with Rev. Robert O’Conner officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown.
