He was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Macomb, a son of Carl and Olive Johnson Shawgo. He married Norma Shields on July 11, 1952, in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Michael Shawgo of Chicago, Kenton (and Robin) Shawgo of Astoria and Gary (and Tami) Shawgo of Peoria; one daughter, Sharon (and Scott) Love of Loves Park; one brother, Bernard Shawgo of Astoria; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Astoria High School in 1951. He would then attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science. He owned and operated Shawgo Memorial Home with his father and brother, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association.
He was a charter member of Ipava Berean Christian Church. He also was a member of the Air Craft Owners Pilots Association, Ipava State Bank Board of Directors and the Ipava Sportmans Club.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. A visitation will take place one hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Ipava Cemetery.
