Virginia StockerVirginia L. Stocker, 96, of Rushville died at 12:45 a.m. Nov. 14, 2020, at Heritage Health in Beardstown.

She was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Pana, a daughter of Charles and Pauline Scheer Maton. She married Ferdinand C. Stocker on Aug. 31, 1946, in Pana. He preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2010.

She also was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Maton.

Surviving are three daughters, Pauletta Vancil and Reverend Rosalee (and John) Ross, both of Rushville, and Gail (and Ken) Kotter of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one sister, Sharon Seibold of Waukee, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A 1942 graduate of Pana High School, she worked at Speedy’s Restaurant, Woolworth Five and Dime, Walgreens, Kehias Confectionery, Mallory Manufacturing and the State of Illinois License Bureau. After moving to Rushville in 1959, she worked at the Rushville High School cafeteria, admitting office at Culbertson Memorial Hospital, Reynolds Insurance Company, Roby Funeral Chapel and Wood Funeral Home.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in both Pana and Rushville. She was past president of the Pana PTA, past president of the United Methodist Women, past president of the Schuyler American Legion Post #4 Auxiliary, past president of Business and Professional Women, past royalty of POLK of A. Klub of Springfield, a Girl Scout leader and member of the Red Hat Ladies.

She volunteered with various people and organizations including Mobile Meals and taking people to doctor’s appointments.

An informal visitation without family present will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville. Reverend Stacy Tomich will officiate a private family service at a later date at First United Methodist Church in Rushville. Private burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery.
