Marla SpencerMarla J. Spencer, 77, of Rushville died at 1:34 a.m. May 7, 2020, at her daughters’ home in Springfield.

She was born Oct. 12, 1942, in Rushville, a daughter of Raymond and Melba Lobb Brocksieck. She married Dean Spencer on July 25, 1985. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2006.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Bonnie Brown.

Surviving are twin daughters, Sandy (and Brad) Heaton of Jacksonville and Cindy (and Steve) Allison of Springfield; one son, Greg (and Ellen) Reeves of Leroy; one brother, John (and Carole) Brocksieck of Washington; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was a 1961 graduate of Rushville High School and later graduated from Lincoln Land College. She became a registered nurse, receiving her bachelors degree from Sangamon State University in 1996. She especially enjoyed teaching at Jacksonville High School and CNA classes at local community colleges.

She previously attended First United Methodist Church and Church of Christ, both in Rushville, and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Alsey. She was a former member of the Reverend James Caldwell Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Be-kik-a-nin-ee Chapter, where she served as a Past Regent. She also served as the Illinois State Chairman, NSDAR.

Because of the current health situation and directives from the Illinois Governor and the CDC, a memorial service will be held at a later date, with burial in the Rushville City Cemetery. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
