He was born Nov. 20, 1982, in Joliet, the son of Frank James Jr. and Ranez Smith. He married Dawn Dohner of Vermont. She survives.
Also surviving are eight sisters, Manika (and Lorenzo) Smith of Gary, Ind., Donyale McCray, Takita (and Bill Baskin) Smith and Carrie McGowan, all of Chicago, Lynn (and Charles) Edwards of Keokuk, Iowa, Shemika (and Antwon) Smith-Fields of Grand Rapids, Mich., Frankie McGowan of Tennessee and Veronica McGowan of Waterloo, Iowa; and paternal grandmother, Elisabeth James of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents, Eltoro and Mary Lee Smith; and his paternal grandfather, Frank James Sr.
He worked construction.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vermont Christian Church with Pastor Cody Stinnett officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
