John ShawJohn Henry Shaw, 88, of Canton died at 4:50 p.m. May 26, 2018, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born April 2, 1930, in Cuba, a son of Ralph H. and Dorothy A. Hall Shaw. He married Shirley Mae Cooper on Dec. 26, 1948, in Cuba. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Debbie (and Jerry) Conner of Macomb and Betsy (and Ron) Mayall of Canton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He graduated from Cuba schools. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-50 where he went to electrical engineering school. He worked for AMAX Coal Corporation for 39 years in the electrical engineering department.

He was a member of Cuba Christian Church where he had served as deacon and elder. He also was a member of the Cuba Masonic Lodge #534. He had served as president of the AMAX 20-year club, president of the Mining Electrical Group of Southern Illinois and on board of directors of Open Pit Mining Association.

A private graveside service will be held Wednesday at the Cuba Cemetery with Pastor Mike Arnett officiating. Military services will be conducted by the Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533. Masonic Services were held. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba is in charge of arrangements.
