Margaret StreetMargaret Street, 98, of Rushville died at 4:15 p.m. Dec. 11, 2016, at her home.

She was born March 22, 1918, in Rushville, a daughter of Clarence and Alta French Tomlinson. She married Jesse Street on Sept. 18, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2001.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Aileen Harn.

Surviving are one daughter, Pamela (and Gary) Ortman of Morton; one grandson, Kyley Ortman of Oceanside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She first worked for the Secretary of State Office in Springfield. From 1965 to 1986, she was a clerk for the Illinois State Board of Education in Springfield. She also worked as a parole officer and election judge in Rushville.

She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville. She served as the Sunday school teacher of the Sooner Class, as an elder, a deacon, on the church board and nearly every committee. She volunteered with funeral dinners provided by the church. She also was a member of the former Women’s Federation. She was active with the Democratic Party.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at her church with Reverend John Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
