Max ShutterMax Shutter, 71, of Ipava died at 8 a.m. May 24, 2016, at his home.

He was born Feb. 10, 1945, in Macomb, the son of Leland and Esther (Hammond) Shutter. He married Carolyn A. Switzer on Sept. 3, 1983, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Scott Alan (and Lisa) Fawcett of Princeton and Steven Lee Shutter of Ipava; one daughter, Michelle Ann Fawcett of Ipava; and three grandchildren.

He was a heavy equipment operator, working for local 649 of Peoria. He also was a lifelong farmer.

He was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam era.

He was a 46-year member of the Local 649 Operating Engineers of Peoria, Ipava United Presbyterian Church, the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213, where he was Past Master for 10 years, the Ipava Order of the Eastern Star, where he was Past Patron, the Scottish Rite of Peoria, the Illinois Valley Shrine and the Ipava American Legion Post #17.

Services were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Doug Krukewitt officiating. A Masonic service was held Thursday evening at the funeral home, provided by the Ipava Masonic Lodge #213. Burial was in Ipava Cemetery with military rites provided by the Ipava American Legion Post #17.
