She was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Buena Vista Township, Schuyler County, a daughter of Frank and Clara Riley Briggs. She married Clifford D. Simpson on Dec. 6, 1934, in Mount Sterling. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1984.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Lee Roy Simpson; six brothers, Frank, George, Brook, Rex, Roy and Jim Briggs; and one sister, Lucile.
Surviving are one son, Joe (and Janet) Simpson; two daughters, Pat (and Jerry) Dotzert and Marian (and Jim) Mellor, both of Rushville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She and Clifford were lifelong farmers.
In earlier years, she was active in Schuyler-Brown Home Extension, Buena Vista Mother’s Club and a volunteer at Schuyler Jail Museum.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Fred Fritz officiating. Burial was in Bethany Cemetery.
