Ray ShannonRay E. Shannon, 65, of Marietta died at 1:46 a.m. Dec. 31, 2014, at University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago.

He was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Canton, a son of Ora A. and Betty A. White Shannon. He married Vicki Derry on July 15, 2000, in Marietta. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Shane (and Mandy) Shannon of Bushnell and Chad Shannon of Avon; two daughters, Shanlyn (and Tim Faught) Brown of Bushnell and Tiffany (and Erik) Babcock of Roseville; four stepsons, Jeremy (and Jennie) Fawcett of Banner, Billy (and Maren) Fawcett Jr. of Burlington, Iowa, Anthony “Tony” Interial and Phillip Interial, both of Galva; one stepdaughter, Stephany (and Jason) Pugliano of Kewanee; two brothers, Ron “Tink” Shannon of Marietta and Don “Duke” (and Kathy) Shannon of Swan Creek; 26 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Bob Shannon.

He was a laborer for several manufacturing plants in the area.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War from August 1969 to April 1971 where he held a rank of E-4, serving in Fire Base Ripcord, receiving the Bronze Star with V for Valor.

He was a member of Bushnell VFW and Ipava American Legion Post #17.

Services were held Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Ipava with military rites provided by Ipava American Legion Post #17. Cremation rites were accorded. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
