Gerald "Jerry" SmithGerald “Jerry” Smith, 63, of Browning died Feb. 4, 2014, at his home.

He was born June 19, 1950, in Canton, a son of Milbern and Beverly Ruth Hamm Smith. He married Verna Berry on March 28, 1981, in Little America. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Donald Foulk of Missouri, David (and Debbie) Berry of Ipava, Amy (and Omar) Morales of Rushville and Jeremy Smith of Browning; two brothers, Jackie (and Rosemary) Smith of Lewistown and David (and Joni) Smith of Browning; two sisters, Nancy (and Joe) Geoff of Arkansas and Kara Bechard of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Leo Smith; and one sister, Janet Smith.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed as a bridge tender in Beardstown, and then worked construction for Heirman Walkers, before retiring from Cargill in 2011.

He served on Browning Fire Department for over 30 years.

Graveside services with military honors were held Monday at Browning Cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.
