DWIGHT M. “CURLY” STRODE

Dwight "Curly" StrodeDwight M. "Curly" Strode, 84, of Cuba died at 3:08 p.m. Aug. 11, 2013, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

He was born Oct. 7, 1928, in St. Augustine, a son of Wesley and Jennie Mason Strode. He married Rosalie Black on June 17, 1951, in Cuba. She died June 5, 2010. He later married Joyce Johnson Smith on Dec. 18, 2011.

Surviving are two sons, Randy (and Sally) Strode of Canton and Rusty (and Theresa) Strode of Lewistown; one sister, Kathryn Shaffer of Cuba; two brothers, Ben (and Mary) Strode of Carlinville and Phillip (and Rowena) Strode of Warsaw, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jason; and one great-granddaughter, Leigha.

He was a retired coal miner where he worked as a diesel mechanic.

He was a World War 2 Army veteran.

He was a member of Cuba Christian Church and UMWA. He served for 56 years as a volunteer fireman for Cuba Fire Department.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Cuba with Reverend Mike Arnett officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the memorial home. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery with military rites conducted by Cuba American Legion Russell Smith Post 533.
