Frances Shaw

Frances ShawFrances E. Shaw, 95, of Monticello, formerly of Smithfield, died at 8 a.m. Nov. 29, 2012, at Bement Healthcare Center.

She was born Sept. 6, 1917, in Marietta, a daughter of Rueben and Catherine O. Orwig Herrick.

Surviving are two daughters, Norma M. (and Donn) Parsons of Smithfield and Judith A. (and Gerald) Brush of Monticello; one brother, Ghlee F. Herrick of Smithfield; one sister, Alta (and Henry) Shaner of Galesburg; six grandchildren, seven step grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson.

She owned and operated the former White Court Cafe in Canton for 15 years; was a custodian for Cuba School District; a sales clerk for Carson Pirie Scott and J.C. Penney; and social home care.

She was a member of Brock United Methodist Church in Smithfield, Fisher Senior Citizens and was a volunteer for Champaign County Forrest Preserve Museum.

Services were held Tuesday at Fiatt Independent Christian Church with Reverend Jim Menne officiating. Burial was in Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.
