Beverly SmayBeverly J. Smay, 79, formerly of Macomb and Versailles, died Jan. 1, 2012, at Garden Grove Hospital in Garden Grove, Calif.

She was born Oct. 22, 1932, in Versailles, a daughter of Emmet and Ella Beames Davenport. She married Sidney L. Smay on July 24, 1957, in Versailles. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2003.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Bill Davenport and Gail Davenport; and one sister, Lorraine Clark.

Surviving are three children, Candy (and Scott) Wagers of Huntington Beach, Calif., Mary (and Dave) Murray of Sarasota, Fla., and John Smay of Ft. Madison, Iowa; one brother, Gerald (and Barb) Davenport of Mount Sterling; and one grandchild.

She was a secretary at Western Illinois University for many years, retiring in 1997.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, Professional Secretary Association and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Macomb. She also was a volunteer at McDonough District Hospital and Red Cross.

Services were held Monday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Terry Foland officiating. Burial was in Versailles West Side Cemetery near Versailles. Wood Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.
