Gilbert StutesGilbert L. Stutes, 85, of Lewistown died at 12:57 a.m. Nov. 14, 2011, at his home.

He was born March 9, 1926, in Lewistown, a son of Andrew and Madelon Puckett Hunter Stutes. He married Nina F. May in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Gilbert V. (and Roberta) Stutes of Canton; one daughter, Letha (and John) Perardi of Hemphill, Texas; six brothers, Terry (and Karen) Stutes, Larry Stutes and James (and Louise) Hunter, all of Lewistown, Maurice (and Alma) Stutes of East Peoria, Robert Stutes of Golden, Colo., and Andrew Stutes Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Carol (and Ted) Myetich of Lewistown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Damon and Leon Stutes; and one sister, Letha Johnson.

He retired from Caterpillar.

He was a World War II Navy veteran, and a life member of Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Reverend Deryck Sonaram officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the memorial home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military rites accorded by his VFW and American Legion posts.
