Ann SommerAnn Caroline Sommer, 82, of Pleasant View died at 11:45 p.m. March 2, 2011, at Heritage Manor South Nursing Home in Beardstown.

She was born March 5, 1928, in Springfield, a daughter of Julius Frederick and Sophia Otelia Garlo Bliesner. She married Robert Francis Sommer on Feb. 28, 1953, in Springfield. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2006.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen (and Julius) Glaseman and Lillian (and Irwin) Knowles.

Surviving are seven children, Michael Sommer, Mark Sommer and Gayle (and Kevin) Brough, all of Rushville, Debra Warden of Beardstown, Marty (and Connie) Sommer of Springfield, Patti (and Greg) Davidsmeier and Dawn Sommer, all of Gillette, Wyo.; and seven grandchildren.

She was a supervisor at Illinois Bell until her marriage and then was a lifelong homemaker. After her children were raised, she was employed at Snyder’s Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville and Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Beardstown, in the dietary department. She also was a Farmer’s Market producer for her blackberries and vegetables.

She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Rushville, St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, Rushville Altar and Rosary Society, Schuyler County Home Extension Club and Rainbow Garden Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown with Father Chris Brey officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Springfield. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church Altar and Rosary Society, St. Alexius Catholic Church or Schuyler County Humane Society.
