Robert ShawverRobert E. Shawver, 86, of Lewistown died at 7:58 p.m. Sept. 15, 2010, at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.

He was born Sept. 7, 1924, in rural Lewistown, a son of Thomas and Ruth Brown Shawver. He married Mildred M. Bump on March 4, 1947, in Fulton County. She died Feb. 26, 2007.

He also was preceded in death by one son, Steven Shawver; one brother; and three sisters.

Surviving are one daughter, Linda Shawver of Lewistown; and several nieces and nephews.

He farmed in Smithfield for many years, and also was a rural mail carrier for 15 years.

He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Illinois Street Christian Church, and he attended Waterford Union Church.

He was a lifetime member of Lewistown VFW and Lewistown American Legion, past commander of both and a member of Rural Mail Carriers Association.

He graduated from Lewistown High School, and then attended Bradley University.

Services were held Monday at Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown with Pastor Darrell Auten officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by Lewistown VFW and Lewistown American Legion Posts.

Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Havana.
