Richard "R.G." SmithRichard G. “R.G.” Smith, 95, of Rushville, died at 5:30 p.m., June 23, 2010, at his home.

He was born Oct. 13, 1914, in Ellsworth, a son of George H. and Lucy P. (Hauser) Smith. He married Alice M. Belcher on Oct. 14, 1940, in McLean County. She preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 2001.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer (and Myrtle) Smith, Percy (and Hazel) Smith, William Smith and Clifford Smith; and two sisters, Pauline (and Leonard) Biggs and Esther Smith.

Surviving are one daughter, Margaret (and Orville) Stanley of Flower Mound, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Vaughan of Ellsworth; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong farmer.

He attended Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, and was a member and past board member of Schuyler County Farm Bureau. He was a supporter of local 4-H Clubs and of the Sheep Division at the Schuyler County Fair.

Services were held Sunday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Robert Einhouse officiating. Graveside services were held Monday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington.
