Verda SullivanVerda I. Jennings Sullivan, 93, of Rushville, died at 10:20 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born on December 30, 1915, in Holdrege, Neb., the daughter of James and Addie Susie Phillips Leach. She first married William Clifford VanOrder and he preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 1950. She later married Herschel Jennings and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1971. She then married Gilbert Sullivan on May 29, 1982, in Rushville and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1986.

Verda was a farm wife and also worked at Mickleberry’s in Rushville for many years.

Surviving are one daughter, Jodie Kepple of Macomb; two grandsons; one great-grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Denver, Eldred, Walter, Jimmy and Norris Leach; and seven sisters, Nina Burklund, Ruby Hantz, Letha Brinton, Peggy Benson, Agnes Leach and Elvadean Knight.

She was a member of the National Children’s Indian Federation.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Mike Cahill officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Rushville.

Memorials may be made to Schuyler County Ambulance or Morgan Kepple Education Fund.
