Stella Smith

Stella SmithStella L. Conway Smith, 60, of Beardstown died at 6:25 a.m. April 5, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born May 16, 1948, in Bloomsdale, Mo., a daughter of Jesse L. and Oma Allison Conway. She married Billy Gene Smith on July 9, 1966, in Rushville. He survives.

Also surviving are one son, Douglas Gene Smith of Beardstown; one daughter, Sandra Kay (and Kent) Prather of Mount Sterling; one sister, Juanita Markel of Sparta; three brothers, Bill Conway and Jim Conway, both of Coulterville, and Bob (and Carol) Conway of Baytown, Texas; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Conway, Mae Grogan and Betty Conway; and two brothers, Richard Conway, who died in infancy, and Jesse Conway Jr.

She drove a bus for Schuyler School District #1 in Rushville; worked in the service department at Steve Knipmeyer Chevrolet and in F & I department at Jennings Inc., both in Beardstown. She was most recently in sales at D’s Auto World in Springfield and at Jacksonville Chrysler-Dodge.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Dixie Croxton and Matt Martin officiating. Inurnment will be in Rushville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
