Orley Shaw

Orley DeWayne Shaw, 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Bluff City, died at 3:48 a.m. Sept. 9, 2007, at Bethany Home in Dubuque.

He was born Aug. 6, 1918, in Kerton Township in Fulton County, the son of Don Hugh and Clara Belle Trone Shaw. He married Vera Alice McDaniel on Dec. 1, 1940, in Kahoka, Mo. She died May 19, 1984. He then married Helen Conner Derry on Aug. 25, 1984, in Summum. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Jean (and Dick) Barron of Rushville and Carol Joyce (and Dale) Ewen of Mahomet; one son, Keith Alan (and Gloria) Shaw of Dubuque; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Weber.

He was a lifelong farmer. He was named Master Farmer of Schuyler County in 1987.

He was a member of Schuyler County Farm Bureau, Summum Christian Church and a former member of Hickory-Kerton Fire Department.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday and from 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Bluff City Cemetery in Browning.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bluff City Cemetery, Hickory-Kerton Fire Department of Bluff City, Astoria Rescue Squad or his church.
